Donor Advised Fund

A donor advised fund (DAF) is a specific type of charitable fund which allows you to distribute gifts to numerous charities during your lifetime. The UM Foundation of Pennsylvania can help you to establish a donor advised fund with a one-time irrevocable gift, made to the Foundation, as sponsor of your fund. You will then be able to annually recommend as many charitable grants as you choose to the ministries you care about most. You can add to the fund at any time. You also can establish successors and beneficiaries of your fund to ensure that your legacy continues after you are gone.

You will enjoy several benefits with DAF

  • Establish a flexible vehicle for annual charitable giving
  • Benefit from a more tax and cost efficient alternative to a private foundation
  • Obtain a charitable income tax deduction in the year of your gift

How a donor advised fund works

  1. You make an initial, irrevocable gift of cash or stock to fund a DAF at the United Methodist Foundation of Pennsylvania
  2. The assets in your DAF grow tax-free
  3. You make annual recommendations on gifts to be made from your DAF

Gifts from your donor advised fund

You can annually make grant recommendations to support the ministries you care about at that point in time. Recommended recipients can change year after year to ensure that grants from the fund reach the ministries where you feel they are needed most.
